Novi most :: Thunder's Bridge

This is one of the recent bridges in Sisak. Model is quite detailed, although I decided not to add to complexity of the model by adding streetlights. Bridge dates from 1970-ies. In 2011 it was re-dedicated to "The Thunders" brigade that played major role in the Croatian war of independence. Some of the textures are simplified, and since it's steel-concrete construction I used mostly default materials.

Jedan od novijih mostova u Sisku. Model je prilično detaljan, iako sam izostavio rasvjetu da ne bude prekompleksan. Most je sagrađen početkom 1970-ih, kao most "Bratstva i jedinstva". 2011 je posvećen gardijskoj brigadi "Gromovi" koji su na ovom području odigrali važnu ulogu u Domovinskom ratu. Neke teksture su pojednostavljene pošto je most većinom betonsko-čelične konstrukcije pa sam uzeo materijale iz Sketchup-a

Un Chien Andalou :: An Andalusian Dog

Mesmerising surrealistic fantasy by Louis Bunuel and Salvador Dali depict seemingly random events, most of them revolve around the wooden box. For a while now I wanted to make the model of the box. I used stills and close-ups from the movie to study it's shape and details. I estimate that width is around 22-25 cm and I hope it's to scale. I took the best screenshot i could and used it as a template for a box, as i extruded it to it's full form.

Much to my surprise after I made the model I discovered that the actual box still exists. At least one of them, since there are the differences such as number of stripes and exhibit has no hinges visible, but exhibit had visible holes where belt was fastened to hang from the cycling-nun-guy's neck. I guess one i used were close-up version and several boxes were used, more so since the movie ends with discovery of broken box. I decided to make stripes with wooden textures, as intarsia, even tho now I see stripes are just painted on the lid, at least in exhibited box.

Zapanjujuća nadrealistička fantazija Louisa Bunuela i Salvadora Dalija prikazuje naizgled nepovezane događaje, većina kojih se vrti oko drvene kutije. Već neko vrijeme želio sam napraviti model te kutijice. Koristio sam slike izvučene iz filma kako bih proučio detalje, procijenio sam da bi širina kutije mogla biti oko 22 do 25 cm, uzeo sam najbolju sliku poklopca kako bih ju u Sketchup-u izvukao u punu formu.

Iznenadio sam se kad sam vidio nakon što sam napravio model da kutija iz filma još uvijek postoji. Barem jedna verzija, jer postoje razlike između izloška i krupnih planova u broju pruga, izložak nema vidljive šarke, ali na njemu su sa strane rupe gdje je bio pričvršćen remem za koji je kutija visila oko vrata liku muškarca koji se vozi na biciklu u odjeći opatice.  Također sam odlučio zadržati izgled intarzije na poklopcu iako se na slici vidi da su pruge samo naslikane.

My 250th model :: Moj 250-i model

Celebrating 250-th model accepted in Google Earth! It's been a long but fun ride. I was seasoned modeler when I started and still I learned so much. I'd have much more models if I did simple textured cubes, but I went for realism, optimised for web, naturally, and never regreted it! To celebrate I made long-planned model of suspension bridge in Martinska Ves. unlike other models I relied on textures as little as possible, and re-created suspension beams as closely as possible.

Slavim 250-i model prihvaćen u Google Earth! Put je bio dug, ali zabavan. Već sam bio iskusan modelar kad sam počeo, pa ipak sam puno naučio. Modela bi bilo i više da sam radio jednostavne teksturirane kutije, ali cilj je bio napraviti realističan model, naravno, optimiziran za web i nikad nisam požalio. Da proslavim, napravio sam model visećeg mosta u Martinskoj Vesi. Za razliku od drugih modela teksture su osnovne samo i nastojao sam napraviti strukturu ovjesa što je bliže moguće.

St. Mary Magdalene Church :: Crkva sv. Marije Magdalene

"One of the richest sacral buildings of central type in Croatia is Mary Magdalene church in village Sela near Sisak. Such building in these parts can be explained only by influence of Viennese circle of architects." - Đ. Cvitanović

Bed stone for the new church was laid in 1759, and construction was complete in 1765. Church was built by Italian artisans helped by locals and serfs of Captol. Building material is mainly reused Roman bricks from old Siscia. Together with accompanying residential house, church in Sela is unique baroque phenomenon in our cultural heritage.

This model was complex for it's ellipsoid dome and intricate tops of the steeples, as well as rich ornaments all over the building. Due to GE guidelines many details are simplified and displayed only using textures. Additional problem were canopies close to church. It was hard to make picture of entire facade, so I used panorama stitcher (free Microsoft ICE) to make one complete image of facade and corrected it's perspective. I used follow-me tool for the dome and tower tops. To establish correct heights, I lifted the base from the map layer and used photo match to get heights relative to widths of the objects.

Kamen temeljac za novu crkvu postavljen je 1759. godine, a završena je 1765. godine.  Crkvu su gradili talijanski majstori graditelji uz pomoć domaćeg stanovništva te kaptolskih kmetova od razvalina stare Siscije. Zajedno s kurijom, crkva u Selima je jedinstveni barokni fenomen u našoj kulturnoj baštini.

Ovaj model je bio složen zbog kupole elipsaste baze, složenih lukovica na tornjevima, i bogatih ornamenata na pročelju i zvonicima. Prema smjernicama za GE 3d layer, puno detalja je pojednostavljeno i prikazano teksturama. Dodatni problem su  bile krošnje drveća uz crkvu, zbog čega je bilo teško slikati cijelo pročelje sa zvonicima, riješenje je bilo snimiti panoramu i onda ju ispraviti u perspektivi. Koristio sam follow-me alat za lukovice i kupolu, za uspostavljanje proporcija koristio sam bazu podignutu iz tlocrta preko koje sam napravio projekciju fotografije kako bih dobio visine relativno prema širinama.

 

Animation of Sisak Fortress :: Animacija Starog Grada

Since I built 3d model in Sketchup, I decided to use free rendering program Kerkythera to produce slightly more realistic animation. This is just a basic model, It would be interesting to make an animation with surrounding buildings and shrubbery.

Otkako sam napravio model u Sketchup-u, odlučio sam sa besplatnim rendering programom Kerkythera napraviti malo realističnije animacije. Ovo je osnovni model bez okoliša, bilo bi zanimljivo napraviti animaciju sa vegetacijom i okolnim objektima.

GE vs, RL II

It's quite cool to see such comparison shots between RL and GE. Still no Streetview  for my hometown (although Streetcar visited us 10 months ago) so I'll keep on doing it by hand for now. Goes to show you can really experience a city in GE with 3d models layer on. And by the way, all the models in the picture are mine...

Sisak Fort :: Stari Grad Sisak

Old fort Sisak - The 16th century triangular fortress of the Old Town, well-preserved and turned into the Native Museum, is the main destination of every tourist. The fortress is famous for the victory of the joint forces of Croats and Carniolans (Slovenes) over the Turks in 1593, known as the Battle of Sisak. It was one of the early significant defeats of the up-to-then invincible Turkish army on European territory. Stari grad Sisak - Trostrana utvrda iz 16. stoljeća, odlično sačuvana i pretvorena u muzej, glavno je odredište posjetitelja Siska. Slavna je zbog Bitke kod Siska 1593. gdje su združene snage hrvata i slovenaca, ostvarile prvu značajna pobjedu nad dotada nepobjedivim turcima. GE vs. RL

I'm starting with comparison shots between GE and RL, consisting mostly of my models. As the collection grows I stared noticing that many of my hometown familiar views can be recreated in GE. Enjoy the first image, a town centre.

Old Roadhouse :: Stara Gostionica

My most recent model of an old restaurant in Sisak centre. This old building is one of my hometown landmarks.  Although it was build in early 19 ct. it lost many baroque features due to many renovations, but the recent one restored some of the baroque elements. It's a very valuable addition to Sisak cultural and architectural history.

Moj najnoviji model je stara gostionica u centru Siska. Ova stara zgrada je jedan od prepoznatljivih simbola siska. Iako je sagrađena u ranom 19. stoljeću, izgubila je barokni izgled u čestim renovacijama iako ju je zadnja obnova donekle vratila baroknom izvoru. Ovo je zgrada vrijedan kulturni i arhitektonski doprinos gradu Sisku.

Victorville

Since my name is Viktor i decied to start a collection of models from Victorville, California. I make them using mostly Streetview and Google maps. So far so good. Hope Victorvillagers (Victorers? Victorvillans? Victorvillers) like them. I take suggestions.

Biskupija :: Diocese

Zgrada sisačke biskupije je jedan od najnovijih modela koji mi je odobren na Google Earth-u. Zbog ograničenja koje odnedavno postavljaju administratori nije moguće napraviti cijeli kompleks zgrada odjednom pa ću morati naknadno dodati još jednu zgradu biskupije. Pri izradi sam pazio na jednostavnost, li i da istaknem detalje koji su prepoznatljivi. Kao posljednji detalj napravit ću komplet modela s drvećem koje okružuje crkvu i zgrade biskupije

Sisak Diocese building is one of the most recent model that was approved for  Google Earth 3d layer. Due to restrictions recently placed by administrators it is not possible to make the entire complex of buildings as one entry, and I have to subsequently add another buildings of the diocese. In making of this model I strived for simplicity, and also  to point out details that are recognizable. The last thing I plan for this set is a set of models of trees surrounding the church and diocese buildings

Dizalica Granik :: Granik Crane

Još jedan model iz industrijskih i lučkih vremena grada Siska. Ovo je model dizalice na originalnom mjestu kao podsjetnik da je nekada luka za utovar i istovar brodova bila u samom središtu grada. Danas je na tom mjestu park sa šetnicom.

Another model from industrial times of Sisak. This is a model of a preserved crane at the original site as a reminder that at one time harbour for loading and unloading goods was in the very center of the city. Today this is park.

   

Željeznički most :: Railroad bridge

Najzad i željeznički most preko Kupe kod sisačke rafinerije i groblja. ovaj model sam dugo želio napraviti i imam dosta slika mosta. Osnovnu strukturu sam podigao sa terena preuzetog s Google Maps karte, poradio na  prilazima, zatim oblikovao temelje mosta i na kraju sami most. Potporna mreža je napravljena od prozirnih tekstura napravljenih prema fotografijama, kao i baza mosta - pješačke staze i sama pruga. Teksture temelja su naravno prave, snimljene tijekom ljeta kad sam radio panorame mosta. Dobar pokazatelj preciznosti je to da se struktura bočnih strana savršeno poklopila s vanjskim konturama mosta po broju spojeva. Ovo mi je sada jedan od najdražih modela. Posebnu pažnju sam posvetio tunelu za pješake koji vodi prema Starom gradu.

Finally the railroad bridge over the Kupa at Sisak refinery and cemetary This model I have long wanted to do and I have plenty of pictures of the bridge. I have built the basic structure  from the ground taken from Google Maps and elevated, than i shaped terrain, foundations and the bridge itself. The support structure is made ​​of transparent textures created from photos, as well as the base of the bridge, walkways and tracks itself. The textures are based on the photos taken during the summer when I shot panorama of the bridge. A good indicator of accuracy is that the structure of the sides perfectly coincides with the outer contours of the bridge in the number of compounds. This to me is now one of my favorite models. I have devoted special attention to the pedestrian tunnel leading to the Old Town.

 

Arhiva Sisak :: Sisak Archive

Zgrada Državnog arhiva u Sisku (http://www.dask.hr/). Dograđena originalna zgrada s modernim dodacima. Poprilično komplicirana, ali ju je bilo jako zanimljivo raditi. Prošlo je oko godinu dana od snimanja zgrade do izrade modela. Raslinje u dvorištu i oko zgrade sam morao izdvojiti u drugi model prema novim smjernicama Google Earth admina.

National Archive building Sisak.  (http://www.dask.hr/). Original building expanded with modern addition. It was rather complicated, but interesting to make. It's been well over a year between taking the pictures and making the model. Shrubbery in the yard and in front of the entrance had to be divided into a different model due to recent regulations by Google Earth admins.

Ovo je zgrada u ulici Ante Starčevića 14. Prvobitno su to bile dvije različite zgrade, obnavljane i proširene 1862 i na kraju spojene u jednu zgradu 1903. Izvođač je bio Andrija Colussi, a investitori Ivan i Emilija Terček. Danas su u njoj većinom uredi nekoliko firmi

This is the building in Ante Starčević street 14. There were originally two different building, renovated and reconcstructed in 1862, to be finally connected in 1903 by Andrija Colussi. Investors were Ivan and Emilija Tercek. Today this building houses several offices.

Novi stari model :: New old model

Ovo je  moj stari model, jedan od prvih koji sam počeo raditi. Tada sam tek počinjao modelirati u Sketchup-u i ova zgrada mi je postala preteška za modeliranje. Posebno sam počeo sumnjati u proporcije i dimenzije nebodera. Sada, kad sam stekao više znanja, sjetio sam se ovog modela i kako stoji napola dovršen i sada sam ga odlučio dovršiti. U međuvremenu sam naučio i puno o teksturiranju tako da za ovaj model gotovo da nisam uopće morao dorađivati teksture skinute s fotografije. Ponekad teksturiranje zahtijeva dosta obrade u drugim programima, ali ima modela gdje uopće nisam trebao koristiti editor slika, i ovo je jedan od boljih takvih primjera

This is one of my old models, one of the first ones I started with. I just began to model in Sketchup and this building proved too hard for me. I started to have doubts in proportions and scale of things. After a while, now that I have more experience with modeling I decided to revisit this model and finish it.  This is one of the models where i had allmost no need to edit textures in image editor. There was other models where I didnt have to edit images at all, and this is one of the better examples.

Nove zbirke :: New collections

Potaknut dijelom i dokumentarnom serijom "Hrvatski kraljevi" odlučio sam napraviti seriju zbirki modela "Hrvatska baština" koje bi obuhvaćale modele po temema. Nadam se da ove zbirke doprinose kvalitetnijem pregledu modela s područja Republike Hrvatske ili vezane uz hrvatsku kulturu općenito. Nadam se da ćete i sami predlagati modele, zbirke upravo punim pa ako neki od modela nije uvršten, to je samo zato što još nisam došao do njega. Planiram dodati još temu "Industrijska baština" jer ima puno starih tvornica i sličnih objekata koje valja predstaviti i u GE.

Recent TV documentary show "Croatian kings" prompted me to make my own model collections called "Croatian heritage" with subtopics. Hopefuly those collections will help in adding to more comprehensive presentation of Croatian models or ones closely related to Croatia. Please suggest your own objects and if one of your objecjts isn't included, it's just a matter of not having time to browse them all. I plan to add "Industrial heritage" as a collection because there are many old factories that need proper presentation.

Kapela sv. Jelene :: St. Helen's chapel

Da malo izađemo iz Siska, ovo je model kapele svete Jelene u središtu Omišlja, na Krku. Slikao sam ju na godišnjem odmoru, no tek sad je došla na red. Crkva je sagrađena 1458, obnavljana nekoliko puta, zadnji puta u prošlom stoljeću.

Model je jednostavan bio za napraviti, odlučio sam ovu kapelu raditi u 3d čim sam ju vidio, pa sam zato napravio i dosta fotografija. Zbog strmog terena oko kapele dodao sam stepenice koje ju obuhvaćaju sa svih strana i tako čine sastavni dio građevine.

To take a small break from Sisak buildings i made a model of saint Helen's chapel in the middle of Omišalj, on the island of Krk. I used photos I took during the holiday. It was built in 1458, restored several times, last time in XX century.

It was fairly easy to model. I decided to make it in 3D as soon as I saw it, so i made several photographs of it. Steep terrain makes the stairs that surround the chapped part of a building so I included the stairs in the model.

Obitelj Colussi izložba :: Colussi family exhibition

Moji modeli su dobili mjesto u Gradskom muzeju Sisak kao dio postava izložbe Obitelj Colussi u Sisku. Modele zgrada koje su gradili članovi ove poznate sisačke obitelji sam prezentirao s animacijama uz natuknice koje daju osnovne informacije o zgradama, a prema dizajnu sisačke dizajnerice Ane Klobučar. Animacija se prikazuje na velikom ekranu u središnjem prostoru koji govori o povijesti i djelima familije. Trebalo mi je nekoliko dana za pripremu  animacije u Movie Maker-u, dok sam modele koje nisam imao već pripremljene radio nekoliko tjedana uz pauze. Drago mi je što će na ovaj način modele vidjeti i posjetitelji koji ne koriste računala i što ću tako svoj rad približiti širem krugu ljudi.

Izložba je otvorena 17. 11. 2011. i trajat će 2 mjeseca.

My models are now a part of a museum exhibition dedicated to Colussi familly from Sisak. Models of the buildings built by that family is presented in a series of animations with short texts, following basic design by Sisak's own designer Ana Klobučar. Animation is being played continuously in the center area that tells the story of Colussi family and their life and work. It took several days to prepare animation in Movie Maker, some models I had from before and some i modeled in previous couple of months. I'm glad that this way models will be seen even by those that don't even have the computer, and my work will be more public.

Exhibition is opened on 17th of November and will last for two months.
